Annual safety audits are an imperative part of health and safety. They ensure your company complies with your health and safety rules and laws like the OHS Act.

The problem with safety audits is they tend to take weeks to prepare and complete. There’s all the planning, question setting, document collecting and target choosing to do first.

But what if I told you there’s a way you can turn this tiring process and into an easy to complete one?

Don’t believe me?

It’s true! Read on as I can show you how to get your next annual safety audit done in just one day using these three tips…

Are you complying with the OHSAS 18001?
Are you 100% compliant? How can you be sure?
Here's an easy way to check…

Use these three tips to complete your annual safety audit in just one day

Tip 1: Use the latest technology
The part of a safety audit that takes the longest is the admin. Setting questions, creating checklists, printing it all out and then re-entering it into your computer.
Using technology such as tablets can condense this whole process into one step. If you can sync your tablet with your laptop you can move documents between the two devices easily so you can conveniently use your tablet on site. After all, no one wants to carry their laptop around during their safety audit.
Using tablets also gives you an easy way to do and submit your checks and inspections.
This will save you a lot of time that you would have spent loading the data into your system.
Fire departments in India have started using this approach according to The Indian Express. It says the fire departments use this system because it speeds up fire safety audits and helps maintain an electronic record of violations in buildings. It  speeds things up further by helping officers e-mail violation notices.
Once they record their findings from the audit, they upload the information straight into a central communication centre.
If a system like this can help fire departments, it can definitely help your company.
Tip 2: Use professional audit software
Professional audit software, such as the Audit Smart Software, can make your life so much easier when it comes to doing safety audits.
This system helps you easily create your audit reports so you don’t have to spend hours generating reports from your information.
If you use such a system on your computer and a tablet during the audit, you can quickly and easily capture the information, feed it into your Audit Smart Software and generate the report in minutes. This will save you days of work.

Three tips to get your employees to comply with health and safety laws
Employees think that safety is something “management’ must do. They’re wrong. Employees also have duties to comply with the OHS Act.
It’s your responsibility to make sure your employees comply. Don’t know how to do it?
Here’s how…
Tip 3: Stick to a small sample
Auditing your entire workplace takes weeks. If you stick to a small sample that represents your entire health and safety system, it will make the process simpler and faster.
Focus on key departments, key aspects and remember to always focus on the system and not the person.
So when you start your audit:
- Create your checks on your computer;
- Load them to your tablet;
- Conduct the audit on a small sample; and
- Load all your information quickly into your Audit Smart Software. And “hey presto”, your audit is done.
And it only took you one day.
