If a DoL inspector comes to your business, you need to impress him with your OHS Act compliance. Otherwise, you could face serious penalties in the form of monitory fines, a company shut down or even jail time.

But you can prevent this from happening to your business by winning over the inspector.

Here are three simple ways you can do this…

Win over the DoL inspector by doing these three things

1. Keep your health and safety documents organised and ready
If you can hand over your health and safety document, already prepared, the DoL inspector will see your health and safety programme is in good order.

Do you have more than 20 employees?
Don’t ignore this health and safety obligation or else!
The DoL will slap you with a R50 000 fine or 1 year in jail if you don’t have a health and safety representative.
Here’s how to avoid it…
2. Keep your workplace neat and tidy
If the DoL inspector has to constantly step over tools and equipment, it doesn’t bode well for the health and safety in your company.
Keep everything in its rightful place and it will help the DoL inspector see your company complies with all the OHS Act laws.
3. Inform your employees on health and safety issues
The inspector might want to speak to and question some of your employees. If you keep your employees informed on health and safety issues in your workplace, they can answer the inspector’s questions.
This will show the inspector you trained your employees and keep them up-to-date on relevant health and safety issues.
Doing these three things will help you win over the DoL inspector and prove your compliance to him.
